Elizabeth "Betsy" Diane Cain Obituary
(Age 57) In loving memory of Betsy Cain who passed away with family and friends by her side, on Sunday August 8, 2010, after a long and courageous fight with breast cancer. Betsy was born on August 17, 1952 in Spokane, WA to Clyde and Shirley Cain. She was the youngest of three children and lived her entire life in Spokane. Growing up Betsy attended Lincoln Heights Elementary School and went on to graduate from Joel E. Ferris High School in 1970. She attended Washington State University, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Parks & Recreation Administration. Later, she attended Whitworth College and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching. Betsy was an active member of the Upsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and of the Junior League of Spokane. For nearly 25 years, Betsy worked for Providence Health Care and Holy Family Hospital as the Director of Volunteer Services. Throughout her life Betsy never met anyone whom she could not talk to. Everyone loved talking with her, as the hundreds of volunteers who worked with and loved her would attest. Before working for Providence, Betsy worked in the marketing departments of Alpac Corp and KHQ TV and as Assistant Recreation Director of Spokane County Parks & Recreation. In the early 1970's, Betsy helped construct her family's lake cabin in Rockford Bay of Coeur D'Alene Lake. Throughout the rest of her life she enjoyed spending time there with her friends and family. Betsy was also an avid bowler and enjoyed going out on the town with "the girls." She was one of the nicest, loving and caring individuals that one could ever meet. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Shirley Cain. She is survived by her son Thomas Trefry, her brothers George Cain and David Cain, her sister-in-law Marilyn Cain, her nieces Janet Cain and Anne Helt, her nephew-in-law Jeff Helt, and family friend Steve Herold. Betsy was the best mother, sister and daughter that anyone could ask for, and she will be missed dearly. A visitation will be held on Thursday August 12, 2010 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Heritage Funeral Home at 508 North Government Way. Funeral services will take place in Spokane at All Saints Lutheran Church (Formerly Emanuel Church) on Friday August 13, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. The church is located at 314 South Spruce in Browne's Addition. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Spokane.
