Elizabeth (Liz) Ann Hurd

Born and raised in

Spokane by parents Robert and

Virginia Hurd, Liz spent her

childhood enjoying family trips to

Michigan and summers at Camp

Sweyolakan, where she served as

a camp counselor and bugler. She

graduated from Shadle Park High

School in 1972 and continued her

education at Spokane Community College and Gonzaga University.

Liz worked at Sacred Heart Medical Center as a Respiratory

Therapist, where she met Gene Turner, whom she later married. They

were married for nearly 22 years. She also served as Clinical Director

of the Sleep Institute of Spokane.

A devoted lover of the outdoors, Liz enjoyed travelling, golfing,

camping, fishing, canoeing, photography, gardening, and her cats.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Virginia

Hurd; her husband, Gene Turner; her brother-in-law, Edward Tyllia;

and her nephew, Jared. She is remembered by her siblings, Mary Tyllia,

Stephen (Peggy) Hurd, and Roberta (Tim) Jackson, as well as by many

nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends who loved and adored

her. Liz will be remembered for a life rooted in family, dedicated

professional work, and a lasting enjoyment of the outdoors.

Liz’s Celebration of Life will be held at Heritage Funeral Chapel,

located at 508 North Government Way, on September 26, 2026, at 1:00

pm.

Association or the Spokane Humane Society
