Elizabeth "Liz" Lingle Owens Obituary Liz passed peacefully into the arms of her savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, December 18, 2016. She was 95 years old at the time of her passing. Liz was born to George M. and Ida in Helena, Montana, where she attended school, graduating from Helena High School in 1939. She also attended Denver University evening classes for one year. A life-long Lutheran, she attended Messiah Lutheran Church in Spokane. Liz married Forrest Owens in Helena in 1950 and they became parents of three sons. The family moved to Spokane in 1963. Elizabeth worked in insurance, and as a church secretary for many years, then later worked on a volunteer basis for several local organizations including Lutheran Social Services, Meals on Wheels, and womens groups within Messiah Lutheran Church. She is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Forrest Owens and by her sister, Bessie Jerin. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law: Ken and Kelly Owens, John and Joan Owens, both of Spokane, and Philip and Susan Owens, Oceanside, CA, as well as 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren. She also is survived by nieces, Joni Campbell and Susan Lummus and nephew, Dan Owens. Always an avid reader and movie buff, in her younger years she enjoyed traveling, gardening, rock hounding and bowling. Liz always enjoyed working crossword puzzles. She and Forrest enjoyed winters in Arizona in their 5th wheel trailer during the last years of his life. Her family and friends were her primary interest and joy. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial gifts in her name to Messiah Lutheran Church, 4202 N. Belt, Spokane, WA 99205.
