Elizabeth M. "Betty" Shields Obituary (Age 94) The Lord took our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother on August 26, 2012. Betty was born to James and Mary Ellen (Connelly) Stack on August 13, 1918 in Oroville, WA. She was a graduate of Mary Cliff High School. Betty married the love of her life, Dean Shields, on October 10, 1940, and together they raised nine children. She was a homemaker for several years before returning to school where she earned her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree. She was a member of Mary Queen Parish and the Altar Society. As matriarch of such a large family, she was ever vigilant about healthy living and strong family ties, and her strength sustained us all. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Conrad and John, husband Dean, daughter Eileen DeLong and granddaughter Keely Shields. She is survived by her children Ellen (Pete) Peterson, Cheryl (Dean) Leipham, Greg Shields, Gloria (Kent) Langley, Tim (Terri) Shields, Colleen Johnson, Brian (Sue) Shields, Terry (Melody) Shields; 18 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Vigil Service 7:00PM Thursday, August 30th at Heritage Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00AM Friday, August 31st at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 3423 E. Carlisle. Private inurnment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Epilepsy Foundation NW, P.O.Box 173 Spokane 99210.
