Elten Emil Ellingson Obituary Elten Emil Ellingson passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Sunshine Terrace, Spokane Valley, WA. Elten was born June 4, 1923, in the hospital at Wall, South Dakota. His parents, John Severin Ellingson and Martha Thurston Ellingson, lived on a cattle ranch near Conata, South Dakota. Elten is survived by his brother, John Carroll Ellingson in Spokane, two nephews, John (wife: Sharon) Ellingson at Rochester, WA and Larry (wife: Jan Wigen) Ellingson at Spokane and one grand-nephew, Scott (wife: Jill) Ellingson, and their three children of Fresno, CA. Elten attended the Cane Creek School through the fifth grade, a one-room log building two miles from home, riding a horse to school each day. In March, 1935 his family left South Dakota and moved to Malo in Ferry County, Washington, where his parents bought a cattle ranch. There he lived until the ranch was sold and he moved to Spokane with his mother in 1956 after the death of his father in 1948. He owned a home on Spokane's south side. Since 1996, he has lived at Sunshine Terrace in Spokane Valley. Graduating from Curlew High School in 1943, he entered the Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946 with a service-connected disability. For several years, he worked for Cavalier Coach Campers. He worked other jobs but was mostly self-employed, recycling scrap and junk. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 18th at 1pm at Heritage Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 3 pm at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Road, Medical Lake, Washington. Memorial gifts may be directed to Meals On Wheels.
