Eugene "Bitsy" LeGrant Obituary (Age 91) After a long and fulfilling life Gene passed away on May 29, 2013. Born and raised in Spokane, Gene graduated from North Central High School in 1940. After serving in the military during WWII, Gene graduated from EWU and began teaching in Spokane in 1946. Gene was also a principal at many Spokane schools and retired after more than 30 years with the district. Gene loved baseball and played for a number of softball teams; he was inducted in to the Washington State Softball Hall of Fame as an All-State second baseman. After retirement, Gene, along with his wife Peggy, volunteered in the community for numerous organizations and were recognized by the City of Spokane for their service. He was also a very active member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his daughter Joanne Bourguignon; son Neil LeGrant; son-in-law Jean M. Bourguignon; daughter-in-law Chris (Stookey) LeGrant; six grandchildren: Lindsay, Jason, Nicole, Danielle, Kyle, and Ashley; thirteen great-grandchildren: Connor, Olivia, Alexandra, Evan, Madison, Trail, Sophia, Lillie, Lexie, Kole, Kennedy, Brody, and Addison. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 10:00AM. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, WA 99210.
