Eugene H. "Gene" Skinner Obituary (Age 87) Eugene H. Skinner passed away on May 8, 2017 in Spokane, WA. He was born on March 11, 1930 in Bismarck, ND to Glenn and Eva Skinner. Gene graduated in 1953 from the South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City, SD. After graduating, he was drafted into the Army where he served two years in West Germany. After returning to the States, Gene graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in 1960 and went on to become a Professional Engineer. He met his wife, Evie, in Colorado and they were married in 1959; Evie and Gene had three children, David, Alan and Alaine. They settled in Spokane in 1966 after moving for Genes job. He worked for the US Bureau of Mines for 29 years until retiring in 1994. Gene also served as the Regional Alumni Director for the South Dakota School of Mines for 20 years. He was a pioneer in establishing a lightweight concrete for mine stability and the year he retired, he received an award for overseeing the sealing of shut down coal mines in West Virginia. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling, being a history buff, boating on the lake and duck hunting. Gene is survived by his wife, Evie Skinner; sons, David (Michele) Skinner and Alan Skinner; and grandsons, Trevor and Kurtis Skinner. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Alaine Chris Skinner and his parents. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 11th at 2:30pm at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley Ave., Spokane, WA followed by a gathering for friends and family at the family home.
