Evelyn Alma Rose Jessup Obituary
Of Camarillo, CA passed away peacefully on December 8, 2009 after a short illness. She was born August 28, 1918 in Almira, Washington, along with her identical twin Elma, to Elsie and George Sanford. She lived with her family in Omak, WA before the family moved to a small farm outside Republic, WA where she grew up. She married Cecil Rose November 2, 1939 and they lived near Coulee City, WA before moving to Spokane in 1940. Cecil and Evelyne had two daughters, Loretta Jean and Connie Cecile.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marguerite Stevens, and brother Dean Sanford. Following Cecil's death in 1983, she married Jake Jessup, a family friend of many years, who was the Chief Safety Officer for Sunnyvale, CA. Jake and Evelyn made their home in Salem, Oregon until his death November 28, 2002. Evelyn moved to Leisure Village in Camarillo, where she was actively involved with her family, loving caregivers, and her beloved dog, Rosie. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Elma, of Hartline WA; daughter, Loretta, son-in-law Mike Merewether of Ventura, their daughters Lorrie Rutkowski, Camarillo, Lee Anne Niroumand, Newbury Park, Aimee Reaves, Camarillo and son, Scott (Ted) Merewether, Ventura; and their six great-grandchildren with one on the way; daughter, Connie Rose, serving a mission in Uganda, Africa, her daughters, Justine Wootton of Tallahassee, FL, Clea Wootton of Fort Portal, Uganda and son, Joe Rose of Westlake Village, CA; as well as five great-grandchildren.
In honor of her love for her dog, Rosie, remembrances may be made to the Humane Society, Police Dog Foundation, seeing eye or hearing dog assistance, or charity of your choice. Services will be held at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura,CA on Wednesday, April 14, 2010, 5:00 P.M. A Graveside Service will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Wellesley, Spokane, WA on Saturday, April 17, 2010, 2:00 P.M., in conjunction with a family reunion celebration. Special thanks to caregivers, Lorrie Rutkowski, Maureen McGrath, and Barbara Berns.
