Evelyn Jean Schmidt Obituary (Age 96) Evelyn Jean Schmidt passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 in her home at Moran Vista Assisted Living with family by her side. She was born October 10, 1921 in Grand Forks, ND to William A. and Emily Mable Nisley. Her family moved to Wallace and then to Spokane where she graduated from John Rodgers High School. She married Edward H. Schmidt October 5, 1940. During her life, she worked at the downtown Kress store, WA State Dept. of Licensing, a camera shop, jewelry departments and sold Sarah Coventry. She also lifeguarded and taught swimming for 20 years, did synchronized swimming and traveled with her husband. Evelyn was a seamstress and made most of her clothes. She also crocheted and knitted many items which her family still enjoys. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Dorothy; and brother, Clarence. She is survived by her children, Connie (Jim) and Thomas (Anita) of Spokane; four grandchildren, Curtis, James, Scott and Stacy; six great-grandchildren, Oscar, Shayla, Tyler, Jared, Payton and Connor; and five great-great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 28th at 1pm at Heritage Funeral Home, Pastor Happy Watkins, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Kindred Hospice.
