Filomena (Militerno) "Babe" Talarico Obituary
(Age 97) Thursday, December 17th, our Mom went home to spend her first Christmas in Heaven. She peacefully slipped away at the Hospice House, South, surrounded by her family on a bright, beautiful snowy day. Our Mom was born November 5th, 1918, to Italian immigrants, Pasquale and Amelia Militerno in Salt Lake City, Utah. After the death of her mother, she and her sister, Rose, went to live with her beloved aunt, uncle and four wonderful cousins while her father went to Idaho to work in the mines. After about eight years he returned and they moved to Kellogg, Idaho where she spent her childhood and attended Kellogg High School. In Kellogg she met the love of her life, John Talarico. They married, moved to Spokane and had two daughters, Bette and JoAnne. Mom and Dad had 73 wonderful years together. They fished, traveled, belonged to the Italian American Club and had many wonderful friends. Mom was a "Super Mom", she not only cooked fantastic Italian meals, breads and pastries but also her Italian Christmas cookies, Scalili and Biscotti were down to perfection. Our Sunday dinners of pasta and meatballs were everyone's favorite and we had great family get-togethers. She became an artist in her '60s and painted everyone in the family beautiful oil paintings. She also was very talented at sewing and gardening, especially growing tulips and roses. Mom could do about anything she set her mind to. She worked as a checker and meat wrapper at Sheridan, IGA for 30 years. She was always there for us, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Family always came first "La Familia". She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Talarico, sister, Rose Sabatini, grandson, Scott Santa Rosa and son-in-law Edward Santa Rosa. She is survived by her daughters, Bette Santa Rosa, JoAnne Anderson (Larry); grandchildren, Tracey Kipp (Steve), Julie Chapin (Todd), DJ Talarico (Michele), Brandon Talarico, (Sara) and great-grandchildren Taylor, Katie, Cole, Jackson, Johnny, Ben, Molly and Ryan and many nieces and nephews. We would like to thank Kenda, Ryan and the staff of Legacy Gardens for their wonderful care. Visitation will be 10-5pm at Heritage on Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 8th, Rosary at 10:30 a.m., Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception at St. Peter Catholic Church, 3520 E. 18th Avenue, Spokane. Interment will take place at Fairmount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Spokane, 121 S. Arthur St., Spokane, WA 99210.
