Frieda Levitch

July 18, 1930 - August 16, 2017

Frieda Levitch Obituary (Age 87) Frieda Natalie Joy Endelman Levitch passed away August 16, 2017. She was born in Spokane to Benjamin and Frieda (Steinberg) Endelman on July 18, 1930. One of the defining moments of her life occurred shortly thereafter, with her mothers death from complications related to the birth. Never having had a mother herself, she centered her life around those of her own four children, becoming a fabulous mother and later grandmother. Friedas young years were spent shuttling between family in Tacoma and Spokane and later for a brief time in boarding school in California. She came to live with her father in Spokane while she was a student at Wilson Elementary and remained with him through her high school years at Lewis and Clark. Frieda then continued on to the University of Washington where she was a member of Alpha Episilon Phi sorority, retaining many friendships from that time up to the present day. While at the University she became engaged to her high school sweetheart, David J. Levitch. They were married for 62 years before his death in February 2016. After they were married Frieda and David spent a year in New York City while he was attending graduate school. Directly after that, they moved for two years to Oklahoma City where David was stationed in the US Air Force. When they returned home to Spokane in 1956 they brought with them their oldest child Linda. Three more children joined the family in the next few years, Sheri, Mark and Randy. Our Mom and Dad spent the remainder of their lives living in Spokane. Frieda was a proud member of Temple Beth Shalom, and spent many years being active in the Spokane Jewish community. President of the Sisterhood and Hadassah were only two of her many roles. Frieda had a very large circle of friends and was socially active up until the time of her death. Although she had slowed down a bit physically the last few years, she kept up with her friends and the community. Frieda always had her own unique sense of style. Although she was a natural beauty, she was rarely seen outside her home without her makeup and hair perfect, and her clothes! From purple hot-pants in the 60s, shag coats in the 70s, to beautifully tailored suits and dresses, with her ever-present jewelry, she always made an impression. Her artistic sense also came into play in her job as an interior decorator at the family business Liberty Furniture. Frieda loved to attend social events of all kinds, including hosting friends at her home. After her children were grown she once again began to indulge in her love for going to the movies. Above all else she was a loving wife and mother who always put those she loved before herself. She was never one to complain about her physical limitations and pushed herself to live her life to the fullest despite her pain. She was a force of nature. She will be greatly missed by her loving family, including many cousins on both the Endelman and Steinberg sides. But no one will miss her more than her children and grandchildren, Linda Levitch (Andrew Olshan) of Carrboro, NC, Sheri Levitch at the home, Mark Levitch (Laura) of Pleasanton, CA and M. Randy Levitch of Scottsdale, AZ. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Daniel Olshan, James Olshan, Cassidy Levitch, Nina Levitch, Rex Levitch and Judd Levitch. Frieda was able to remain in her beloved home until her death because of the loving care provided her by her daughter Sheri. We are all profoundly grateful for her efforts. Friedas next door neighbor Roy Jackson has also been an invaluable help these last several years. Funeral services will be held Sunday August 20th at 1:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home, to be followed by burial at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Temple Beth Shalom or the charity of your choice. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Frieda, please visit our Tree Store.
