Gene Cody Sponcler Obituary (Age 72) ?Sandy Boy? This sweet, kind, gentle loving Husband, Father, grandpa, uncle and friend left us on January 25, 2016, after a courageous battle of kidney and bone cancer. He was born July 9, 1943 in Spokane to Eugene and Mary Sponcler. Gene is survived by his wife Sandra of 50 years, sons Shane (Lonna) and Stacy (Katherine) of Chattaroy, WA, daughter; Shawna (Jim) Kreitz, of Spokane, grandchildren Charyl (Colby), Savannah (Kit), Britney (Tyler), Alexa (Aaron), Brandon (Kassy), and great-grandchildren, Abby, Hailey and Caden, loving nieces Melanie and Brook Jones, his Cozzetto Family, stepbrothers Buck (Heidi) Ganske of Snohomish, WA and Thomas (Lena) Jay of Federal Way, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents Mary and Gene Sponcler, Aunt Rozella and Uncle Red Sponcler, and his stepmother Anna Mae Sponcler. Gene attended St. Aloysius Catholic School, Gonzaga Prep and North Central High School. He devoted 41 years to Great Northern, Santa Fe Railroad, where he retired 12 years ago. He was an active member of Dukes Auto Club, Eagles Aeries 3564, River City Modelers Railroad Club, and Great Northern Railroad Historical Society. Family asks that you respect privacy during this difficult time. There will be no service, but possibly a Hot Rod memorial following in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Spokane Humane Society or Scraps.
