George W. Litzenberger Obituary
George (Gramps) Litzenberger passed away December 10, 2010 with his family by his side.
He was born to Elsie and Edmund Litzenberger outside Union flats on a ranch on February 22, 1924. He grew up in Endicott, Washington and graduated from Endicott High School in 1942. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard later that year and served for three years. Duty stations included Ketchikan, Alaska and the Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw on the Great Lakes. After the Coast Guard he joined the Merchant Marine where he had the opportunity to explore more of the world. He married Kathryn Thomas in 1954. They raised their three children in Seattle while he worked for the Post Office. George and Kathryn divorced in 1979 but remained close friends. After retiring from the Post Office he moved back to Endicott to care for his Father during his last years. George spent the last 27 years residing in the Cascade Mobile Home Park in Spokane. Though he had many interests...he derived the greatest satisfaction by helping others and being a very loyal friend. George is survived by Kathryn and their three children Karla Litzenberger of Seattle; Tom Litzenberger of Spokane; and John Litzenberger of Port Townsend. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren; Felicia, Dan, Mari, Kyle, Brett, John Erik, and Mikel. He will be deeply missed by his family and his numerous friends including his neighbors at the Cascade Mobile Home Park along with his faithful companion to the end...his cat "Miss Kitty." The family would like to acknowledge long time family friend LeQueux for all of her amazing help. they would also like to thank Hospice of Spokane who helped George during his final months and helped him die with dignity. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests that any memorial gifts be made to Hospice of Spokane, P.O. Box 2215, Spokane, Washington 99210.
We love you Gramps!!
