Georgia J. Olson Obituary
Georgia was born August 20, 1919 in Cle Elum, WA to Claud and Laura McDaniel. She passed away peacefully on October 23, 2010. Georgia moved to Spokane from the west side of the mountains in 1946 and had lived here ever since. She worked at various
professions throughout her
life to help support the family, including a hosiery mender, cook, waitress, bank clerk and hospital admitting clerk. In addition to her holding down her various day (and night) jobs she found the time to get involved in leadership roles in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts as well as volunteer activities for her church. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling, square dancing and other related fun activities that came as a package deal with her marriage to Harold Olson. She is survived by three children: Jack (Trudy) Koeneman of Heron, MT, Dave (Sue) Gerkensmeyer of Richland, WA and Carol (Mike) Schmedding of Spokane; grandchildren Jeph and Ron Koeneman, Clint (Kerri) Gerkensmeyer, Jill (Adam) Predmore, and Neal (Brandi) Perkins; eight great-grandchildren; various nieces and nephews and their extended families. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband John Koeneman, second husband Theodore Gerkensmeyer Jr. and most recent husband of nineteen years Harold Olson; sisters Claudine and Lorna and brother Carl. Donations in memory of Georgia may be made to Horizon Hospice or the Spokane Food Bank. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Heritage Funeral Home.
