Georgia Mary (Burchett) Benway Obituary (Age 78) Passed away April 11, 2016. She was born January 20, 1938 in Spokane to George and Leona Burchett and grew up on the family farm. As an adult she raised her four children there and passed away there. She graduated in 1957 from Mead High School and later in life went to Spokane Community College. Georgia married for the first time in 1957, then remarried in 1969. She loved to grow large gardens with many fruit trees included. She loved to sew and later in life took up crocheting. She worked at Albertsons for 10 years. She loved to go to Hillyard Senior Center once a week and help serve lunch and play penny bingo. She belonged to Whitworth Presbyterian Church for about 50 years. Georgia is survived by her children James and Laura Hammond, Kathleen Markley and Laura Jackman; brother Derwood Burchett; grandchildren Sheena McVay, Faye Benway, Sara and Isaiah Hammond; great-grandchildren Davontae and Deontae Hammond; many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by a daughter Connie Hammond; first husband James Hammond and second husband Joe Benway; sister Darlene Tindal; brothers Everett and Henry Burchett; her parents and a great-granddaughter Tayelynn McVay. A Memorial Service 11AM Friday April 22, 2016 at Whitworth Presbyterian Church, 312 W. Hawthorne Road in Spokane.
