Gerald K. Ruhling Obituary (Age 82) Dad was born on May 4, 1930 to Henry T. and Ingaborg E. Ruhling in Ronan, Montana. He passed away at home on February 5, 2013. The Ruhling family arrived in Eastern Washington in the mid 1930's before finally settling in Spokane. Dad attended and graduated from John R. Rogers High school in 1948 after completing an outstanding athletic career in baseball and basketball. After high school Gerry followed in his dad's footsteps becoming a lifelong meat-cutter. It was while working as a meat-cutter he met and eventually married Darlene in 1955. He was active playing fast pitch softball for many years and was inducted into the Inland Empire Softball Hall of Fame in 2005. He was a charter member of both the Krazy 8's Family and Octo-Plus Square dance clubs. He was an officer in both clubs and also served on the Western Dance Association Board. In August 2012 Dad and Mom were inducted into the Spokane Area Square Dance Hall of Fame. Dad also enjoyed supporting his family in their various activities including basketball, hockey, 4H, FFA and family camping trips. You could also be sure to find Dad enjoying his morning cup of coffee at his favorite Fred Meyers and if you ever wanted or needed anything at a yard sale Dad was your "Go to Guy!" Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Ardell Louise, brother Richard, and wife Darlene. Gerry is survived by children Jack A. Ruhling of Anchorage, AK, Patrick E. Ruhling and Sue E. Greene (Mark) of Spokane, Kay N. Kjack (Kal) of Fairfield, WA; grandchildren Janell Gilmer (Chris) of Plummer, ID, Heather Kjack of Fairfield, WA, Thomas and Nicole Greene of Spokane; sister E. Nadine Hermann, brother-in-law Marvin Soehren (Helen), sister-in-law Bonnie Soehren, cousins Raymond Foss and Lawrence and Raymond Rowse. Visitation will be on Monday Feb. 11th from 10 A.M. till 5 P.M. and Tuesday Feb. 12th from 10 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. at Heritage Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Tuesday Feb. 12th at 1 P.M. at Fairmount Memorial Park followed by a Memorial Service at 2:30 P.M. back at Heritage Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Association or an organization of your choice.
