Our mother left Germany with her family in 1934 at the age of 13 and fled the Nazi persecution of Jews. They settled in Palestine which was controlled by the British and her father established a leather goods store. Our mother became a nurse in the British army while her brother Zvi (died in 2002) was a member of the Jewish underground who fought the British to establish the State of Israel. He was subsequently captured and imprisoned in Kenya. She married Paul Harari in Israel in 1950 and raised two boys. In 1958 the family immigrated to Brooklyn, NY and then relocated to North Plainfield, NJ where they lived for 25 years. In NJ she volunteered as a nurse's aide in the local hospital and taught knitting and German language adult evening classes. In 1985 she and our father retired to San Diego to be closer to their son David, a physician. She continued to volunteer as a nurse's aide in hospitals and raised Weimaraner dogs. In 2004 she and our father moved to Spokane to be closer to her son Joseph, a veterinary surgeon. She is survived by her husband Paul Harari of Spokane; son Joseph and grandchildren Hanah in Moscow, ID and Evie in Pullman, WA; son and daughter-in-law David and Julie in San Diego, CA and their children Jonathan and Caroline; several nieces and nephews in Israel. She is a member of Temple Beth Shalom and her avid interests were sewing, knitting crocheting and watercolor painting. Graveside Service 10:00AM Thursday November 19, 2009 at Mt. Nebo Cemetery.
