Gilbert Albert Leon Obituary It is with great sadness that the family of Gilbert Albert Leon announce his passing on January 14, 2018 in Spokane, WA at the age of 72 after a long battle with cancer. Gilbert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Yong Sue Leon, his four children, Jason Leon of Beaverton, OR, Jennifer Oudes of Spokane, WA, Jonathan Leon of Portland, OR, Kimberly Leon Brezic of Bradenton, FL and three grandchildren, Alejandro, Emilia, and Samuel as well as his cousins Yolanda Spicer of Palatka, FL and Richard Juarez of Yuma, AZ. Gilbert is also survived by his step children Sua Peace Jun of Seoul, Korea, Hosung Jun of Spokane, WA and three step grandchildren, Ian, Asher and Nathaniel. Gilbert was born on May 30, 1945, in Merced, CA to Albert Leon and Eleanor Alcantar. He graduated from Parkrose High School in Portland, OR in 1964. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June of 1966 and served in Vietnam. He fought in the Tet Offensive and was honorably discharged in 1968 with the rank of Lance Corporal. Gilbert was awarded the following medals for his service in Vietnam; Combat Action Ribbon with three bronze stars Presidential Unit Citation Medal to the 3rd Marine Division National Defense Service Medal Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze stars Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal A funeral is scheduled on January 25, 2018, 12:00 PM at Heritage Funeral Home at 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA with a reception to follow. Gilbert will be laid to rest at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Gilberts life.
