Glen Albert Stratton Obituary
In Loving Memory of
Glen Albert Stratton
Glen was born on November 8th, of 1929 in St. Maries, Idaho to the parents of Frank and Thelma Stratton. He was the third of four children of Frank and Thelma. He grew up helping his family with farming and working in the woods with logging. He attended various schools which included: schools in the Benewah's and St. Maries, Idaho, a Navel Academy on Bainbridge Island, Washington, and North Central High of Spokane, Washington.
He was married on June 4th, 1950 to his beautiful wife Alberta Dickson, in Lebanon, Oregon. Together they lived in Lebanon, Oregon where two of their children were born, a daughter then a son. They then moved to Palouse area of Washington. Later they made a home in Fernwood, Idaho and he worked in the logging industry for several years with his father. While living in Fernwood, another son was born. When the logging industry slowed they moved to Metaline Falls, Washington where he hauled oar from the mines. They later moved to Spokane, Washington and their third son was born. Glen began working for heavy equipment companies in Spokane. Once they moved to Spokane Valley, he began working for the Caterpillar Company. Glen retired from Western States Equipment of Caterpillar after 32 years. His occupations varied through the years, as he always sought out work to support his family, relocating if necessary to secure a job. He worked as a logger, sawyer, trucker, welder, painter, and laborer in various other jobs. After retiring Glen and his wife Alberta moved to the St. Maries area. He still loved the trucks and big equipment. He then drove plow truck for the State of Idaho for a brief time. Later, he and his wife relocated back to Spokane area in Otis Orchards.
Glen loved his family very much and enjoyed many different activities with them. He was handy in various trades and was able to maintain their homes, vehicles, and yes even the children's bikes and trikes. It was seldom a repair person was ever called for assist. In fact, one could often find him assisting extended family and friends with their repair situations. He often dropped and ran, countless times, to the aid of his family and others when there was a need, no matter the cost or sacrifice. He loved family gatherings, playing his squeeze box and harmonica, fishing, boating, golfing on his private course, ice skating, downhill skiing, huckleberry picking, visiting the Oregon beach, travel, chess, playing horseshoes, sitting around a fire roasting hot dogs, 4th of July fireworks, and mini concerts by his great grand children. He also loved his meat and potatoes, and of course the desserts.
Glen had attended various churches through the years of his life. He was not a regular, but believed in God. He also belonged to the Order of DeMolay as a teen. Glen was a prim and proper sort of guy. Manners were a must. Disrespect was never tolerated.
He and Alberta had just celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this past June. He enjoyed their family celebration and having loved ones celebrating with him.
On July 17th of 2015, Glen took his final journey on earth to meet Heavenly Father. Although it was his final journey here on earth, he will forever be in the heavens, watching down, smiling, and forever guiding us in our own journeys through life. Like his brothers Franky and George, and sister Ellen before him, he will take his rightful place beside the Lord, and will forever be in our hearts, and minds.
He left behind his wife Alberta Stratton, daughter Wanda Kerbs, sons Ronald Stratton, Larry Stratton, Roy Stratton, many grand children, great grand children, extended family and friends.
He will be forever missed and loved.
The service for Glen A. Stratton was held on Thursday, July 23rd of 2015 at Heritage Funeral Home, and he was laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
