Gordon Savatsky Obituary (Age 76) Passed away November 16, 2017. He was born in Worcester MA on June 24, 1941, the son of Albert and Ruth Savatsky. He married Pamela Elkind in 1964 and resided in Boston, Massachusetts for a short time. Gordon had daughters Rhonda-T and Stacey and moved with his family to South Natick, Sudbury, and Hudson Massachusetts, and finally to Spokane where Gordon remained for the rest of his life. His aptitude in the arts was confirmed early in life through a short but successful career as an architectural draftsman in Boston. While in his mid-twenties, after a serious illness interrupted his success in the field of architecture, he was forced into an early retirement. Eventually, Gordon's interest in history and art, in conjunction with his skilled craftsmanship, directed him to antique furniture restoration, in which he took pride for many years. An avid hobbyist, Gordon's interests often harkened back to his love of history, design, and the arts. Throughout the seventies, he was an active member of the Fourth Middlesex Militia, a group that reenacted revolutionary battles culminating in an elaborate 200th anniversary reenactment of Arnold's March and the Battle of Yorktown Virginia in 1981. After moving to Spokane in the early 80's, he dabbled in cartography, creating gaming maps for a local Spokane gaming store, hand painted thousands of miniature soldiers, also for gaming, and created elaborate miniature train depot towns complete with trees, buildings, people and of course, trains. He was an active member of a model boat club, and a steam engine organization. Through his love of photography, he became more physically active in the 1990's and joined a kayaking group and the Spokane bicycle club. He often took on leadership roles within these organizations. The photographs of Washington State created during many of these outings are breathtaking. Gordon had a strong affection for animals and wildlife, which he captured in photography, matted and framed himself, and distributed among friends and family. Gordon is survived by his parrot Sundy (Girl-Bird); daughter Rhonda-T Warren and partner Mitch Wallace; grandchildren Elliott and Harrison Warren, and daughter Stacey Savatsky and husband Joe Adams. A graveside service was held at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Gordon, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events NOV 16
