Gordon William Zehm Obituary (Age 85) On November 24, 2016, after a long and difficult battle with illness, Gordon W. Zehm returned home to God. Gordon was born in Spokane, WA on April 25, 1931. He attended Rogers High School. After graduation, he worked for the US Forestry Service and was at that time, the youngest fire warden in Washington State. Shortly after, he enlisted in the Army National Guard; he then joined the US Navy. He served our country from May 7, 1952 to May 1, 1990. Gordon received many commendation medals, including a Purple Heart. He served on the USS Cabot, Bon Homme Richard, Coral Sea, Hancock and USS Constellation. He served our country during the Korean War to the beginning of the Iraq War. He retired from the US Navy as an E-9, Command Master Chief of the Pacific Fleet. After retiring, he returned home to Spokane where he remained until his death. Gordon was a very humble man and helped anyone who needed it. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother and friend. His kind and gracious character touched so many lives. He loved his family, God and country. He was grateful for all he had and remained a true and faithful patriot to his country. No words can express the grief his family and friends are experiencing from his unexpected death. He will never be forgotten. Gordon is survived by his daughters, Susan Hickim of Spokane and Eva (Dave) Calder of Helena, MT; grandsons, Derrick and Nathan Hickim of Spokane; his brother, Kenneth Zehm of Seattle; his sister, Dee Kennedy of Spokane; and many nephews and nieces. A funeral service for Gordon will be held on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 1pm at Heritage Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service with military honors.
