Grace Ellen (Meade) Hanson Obituary January 26, 1934, "GRACE" was born in Portland Oregon to watchmaker and jeweler Calvert Willins Meade and nurse, Viola Bottenberg. She began accordion lessons at the age of five and by sixteen she attended the National Music Festival Competition in Chicago with the Senior Ensemble escorted by their instructors, Van Dee and Virginia Sickler. Her most memorable family vacations were to Oregon...especially the McCoin ranch on the Crooked River in Terribonne and relatives in McMinnville. Grace's first love was her palomino stallion, Palomar (Pal). She played with him as one would a dog. The family enjoyed outings on Lake Coeur d'Alene which often found her behind the boat on the surf board. She graduated from Lewis & Clark H.S. in 1951, her father became ill and passed away that same year. The horse and boat were sold and her mother learned to drive. Grace bought a Geiulietti accordion to play for the public as a "second language". She went to work at Spokane & Eastern Nat'l Bank, she met and married Bernard D. Braucht, son of Pearl and Everett Braucht of Greenacres, and they had a daughter, Patricia (Patsy) Ann. They divorced. Five years later Grace married Melvin H. Hanson. Their children were: Doretta (Dorie) May, Ronald (Ronnie) Calvert Hanson, and Robin Lloyd Hanson. With children grown, Grace was finally ready to pursue some hobbies: Touche' sailing club, Bass Club, bird watching with good friend David, flower gardening especially roses, volunteering for many years with the COP SHOP SW. Her "friend of a lifetime" and neighbor, George accompanied her to the Spokane Symphony, Accordion Ensemble concerts, helped her with her dogs and backyard chickens, Campaigning at election time and any other interesting projects they could find. Grace is survived by her sister, Joan Meade Morse; and Grace's four children and their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and families as listed below: Patsy O'Connor - her daughter Kelly M. O'Connor who is mother of Mitchell S. Bishop (son Demarius J.M. Bishop, daughter RhaeLee S. Gunning Bishop), Cambrea M. Bishop (son Kade R.A. Bishop), Trey E. and Jade M. O'Connor. Dorie Hill - her husband, Dan Hill and daughter Teresa Kness. Ronnie Hanson. Robin Hanson - his daughter Rachel Hanson, (daughter Madison Hanson), and son Chris Hanson and his wife Rachel. She is predeceased by her parents and brother. An open house for friends and family will be Saturday, April 2, 1112 W. 8th Ave. from 11:00 - 3:00pm.
