Grace M. Cowan Obituary (Age 90) Grace passed away on September 7, 2011 at Hospice House in Spokane, WA. She was born on May 6, 1921 in Sheridan, Wyoming to Harvey Washington Richardson and Ethel Meserve Richardson. Grace was preceded in death by her husband Russell, brothers Clyde, Tom, John (WWII casualty),and baby Kenneth; sisters Floral Bender and Alice Wellington. She is survived by her sons Ron (Dianne) Camarillo, California and Jim (Arlene) Spokane; sister Gladys Jacklin, Spokane Valley; grandchildren Ryan Cowan, Spokane, Derek Cowan, Salt Lake City, Lee (Rona) Cowan and Carrie (Dave) Cutchall, Canyon Country, California; great-grandchildren Toni Cowan, Shane and Skylar Cutchall, Sean and Jacob Cowan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Grace grew up in Harrison, Idaho. She married Russell on June 19, 1939 in Coeur d?Alene, Idaho. For many years, Russell and Grace enjoyed western dancing and belonged to several western dance clubs. Grace was a secretary for Spokane Public Schools for 31 years. She was a member of Fowler United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the office. She also volunteered at the Spokane Veteran?s Home serving meals to the residents. Grace liked to garden, go shopping, eat pastries, go shopping, take friends and family out to lunch or dinner and go shopping. She was a huge fan of both major league baseball and the WSU Cougars. Grace and Russell built a lake cabin and enjoyed many years fishing and picking huckleberries. Very special times for her were spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved very much. The family thanks the staff and nurses at Hospice House for their special care and a thank you to her dear friend Ethel Oatney for a friendship of over 80 years. Donations in Grace's memory may be made to Hospice House, 367 E. 7th, Spokane, WA 99202. Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home at Wednesday, September 14th and Thursday, September 15th from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A funeral service will be in the Heritage Chapel on Friday, September 16th at 2:00 PM followed by interment at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
