Grant E. Lundin

Grant E. Lundin Obituary (Age 92) Passed away November 25, 2011. He was born July 9, 1919 in Rathdrum, ID to Selma and Fred Lundin. He and his twin Clair joined older brother Eric and stepsister Vera. Grant grew up in the Hidden Valley, five miles outside of Rathdrum. He had a love of learning and was extremely handy with his hands. He could build nearly anything desired out of parts scrounged or bartered for seeking to improve the lives of those he loved. He went to mechanic's school in Portland where he joined the US Army serving in the Philippines and Okinawa in the 96th Infantry Division of the 321st Engineer Battalion during WWII. He married MaryJane Huntington when the war was over settling in Spokane Valley. There he ran Lundin Brothers Automotive Service while raising three young girls. Later he worked for International Harvester and in 1962 started the Antique Auto Ranch, 2225 N. Dollar Rd., which he owned and operated. He sold the business to Tom Carnegie, his son-in-law's brother and retired. Grant belonged to many clubs including the Hassie Club, Model T Club, Sons of Norway and the Vasa Swedish Lodge. He enjoyed old cars, fixing and repairing, creating, playing his guitar and fiddle, country songs, Scandinavian music, old time fiddling and old gospel songs. He was a published writer and wrote memoires and vignettes of his life. In 1971 he lost his oldest daughter Linda in a drunk hit and run car-pedestrian accident. Middle daughter Christina married and had a boy Andrew and girl Nellie. Youngest daughter Carla married and had girls Anna and Meghan and boys Donald and Kyle. He is survived by his twin brother Clair; nephew Arvid; daughters Christina of Dallas, TX and Carla (Richard) Carnegie of Otis Orchards; grandchildren Anna (Paul) Marx, Donald Carnegie, Andrew Dolven, Nellie (Jason) Guthner, Meghan Carnegie and Kyle (Melissa) Carnegie and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; older brother Eric; stepsister Vera; daughter Linda Lundin and ex-wife Mary Lundin. Memorial Service 11:00AM Saturday December 3, 2011 at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley 99206. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of Opportunity Presbyterian Church in Grant Lundin's name.
