January 06, 1920 - September 25, 2009

Harlow "Gibby" Lee Gibbon, Jr. Obituary (Age 89) Harlow Lee Gibbon Jr. passed away at his home on September 25, 2009. Born on January 6, 1920 in Spokane to Dr. Harlow and Nell Gibbon, Harlow would have celebrated his 90th birthday in January. He attended Wilson Grade School and Lewis and Clark High School where he received an award for never missing a day of school in four years. Harlow worked as an usher at the "new" Fox Theater beginning in 1938. He was present at the rededication of the Fox in 2007, as he was called upon to share his personal knowledge of its past history. Harlow spent two years in the U.S. Coast Guard, during which time he was married to his beautiful wife, Beverly Jeanne Putman of Spokane. They were married for 42 years before she preceded him in death in 1982. Harlow and Beverly spent many vacations on the Oregon Coast with close friends. Harlow continued these annual trips until, more recently, he sought sunny vacations in Palm Desert. Harlow began his career at International Harvester which was followed until his retirement at 89, in the automobile industry. He spent many years at Utter Motor Company and, most recently, retired after 25 wonderful years with the George Gee Company. Harlow's interests were centered primarily on his family and friends. He found time most mornings to meet regularly with his beloved "coffee group" to share a few laughs and solve the world's problems. He loved the holiday season and all of its traditions. He took great pride in selecting and decorating his Christmas tree which was admired by everyone year after year. Harlow is survived by his daughters, Marcia Martinson of Spokane, Whitney Braden (Tom) of Portland, and son Lee (Teddie) of Spokane. He adored his grandchildren Jason Martinson (Cindy), Nicholas Martinson, Shawn Martinson, Tyler Martinson, Adam Havens, Alexia Tom (Brian), step grandchildren Todd Braden (Carol), Kirsten Olsen (Ian) and five great grandchildren. Harlow will be dearly missed and remembered always for his sense of humor, honesty, loyalty to family and friends, and his love of football and basketball, particularly the Cougars, Huskies, Seahawks and Zags. A celebration of his life will be held at the Spokane Club on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 3:30PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The American Heart Association 7272 Greenville Avenue, Dallas TX. 75231 or call 1(800) 242-8721
