Harold Marlin Lovlien

May 26, 1926 - July 02, 2016

Harold Marlin Lovlien Obituary (Age 90) Harold Marlin Lovlien peacefully left our world Saturday morning, July 2nd at home on Bigelow Gulch Road. He leaves behind son Bill and wife Denise, daughter Carol and husband Grant Hungerford, cousin Christine and husband LeRoy Johnson, and grandchildren Abigail, Alexander, and Nicholas Lovlien and Gabriel and James Hungerford. His friends are many and his humor great. Harold was born May 26, 1926 in Decorah, Iowa to Kate (Kloss) and Olaf Alexander Lovlien. Along with his brother Robert, the family lived on the farm in Decorah until Hal was 8 when the family moved to Spokane. Harold attended Libby Jr. High and Lewis & Clark High School. Seeking independence and his stake in the war effort, he left home early and worked in the shipyards of Seattle and Kirkland before joining the Navy in 1943. He saw action in the Pacific Theater at the Battles of Tinian and Saipan. After the war his ship, The USS Fulton, was attached to the record keeping processes at the atomic bomb test at Bikini Island. Hal was honorably discharged in 1947 and went on to attend college at Southern Oregon and the University of Oregon, where he received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1951. Soon after he married the mother of his children, Mary Virginia Goss. They enjoyed many happy years together before her passing in 1974. Twice blessed, Dad married Virginia Sederholm in 1976 and they, too, were a very happy couple before her passing in 2005. Hal loved music, football, golf and politics; and in his younger years ice skating, dancing, fishing and boating. He taught his family to have a steadfast faith in God and a duty to making our country better. A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W Wellesley, Spokane, WA. A Memorial Service will follow at Heritage Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.
