Harriet (Taylor) Schnug Obituary Harriet Taylor Schnug passed away August 11, 2013, at Touchmark on the South Hill. She was 96 years old. Harriet "Happy" Schnug was born May 8, 1917, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Robert Alms Taylor and Alice Willey Taylor. She attended Hillsday School. On August 2, 1941, she married Dr. George Edward Schnug in San Francisco, California. Soon after their first child was born, Dr. Schnug was sent to France and remained in the service in Europe for over two years. During this time, Happy and her infant son lived with relatives in Cincinnati. Upon his return, the family moved to Spokane, where Dr. Schnug began his practice in general surgery and their two daughters were born. Happy had an adventurous spirit and was an avid outdoors woman. She and her husband enjoyed fly fishing and backpacked into mountain lakes all over the Inland Empire and British Columbia. Hap was a self-taught naturalist and bird-watcher, and an environmentalist. She relished her time spent at their Priest Lake cabin with friends and family. With her sense of adventure, they traveled, usually fishing and hiking, all over the world. She was a good golfer, an excellent swimmer, a creative cook, and an avid reader. She was a loving and charming lady who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her son, George Edward Schnug, Jr. and Christina in Spokane; daughter Sarah Jane Gates and Charles Lee Gates, Jr. In Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and daughter, Deborah Schnug Roberts and Bruce Roberts in Los Gatos, California. Eight grandchildren include Edward Francis Schnug and wife Nikki in Spokane, Mathew Taylor Schnug and wife Cathryn in Spokane, Jordan Christopher Schnug in San Francisco, Benjamin Lee Gates in Coeur d'Alene, Kimberly Gates Travis and husband, Dennis, in Coeur d'Alene, Wendy Taylor Gates in East Glacier, Montana, Molly Katherine Roberts in Seattle, and Sarah Jean Roberts in Delft, Holland. Seven great-grandchildren include Madison Taylor Schnug, Trevor Calihan Schnug, Haley Kristine Schnug, Jared Edward Schnug, Penelope Jane Gates, Scarlet Louise Harris, and Annika Lee Travis. Happy was preceded in death by her husband George Edward Schnug and three siblings. A private memorial will be arranged by family. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane, 121 S.
