Hazel M. Raeder Obituary (Age 85) Passed away September 1, 2010 in Post Falls, ID. She was born September 8, 1924 in Owatonna, MN to Peder D. and Alma Belle (Carley) Thomsen. Hazel spent most of her younger life in Montana where her parents owned and operated a Woodwards store in Hardin, MT. She graduated from Hardin High School, Billings Business College, an Aviation Correspondence Course (she became a Teletype Operator for TransWorld Airlines), and she received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Ellensburg, WA. Hazel married Donald Paul Raeder on September 23, 1955 and she spent most of her adult life in the Spokane area. She taught mostly kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades a few years before her marriage and then later after the children grew up. She also ranched with her husband, Don, with one ranch in the Liberty lake area, and for a couple of years in Superior, MT. They retired from ranching in 1969. Hazel and Don enjoyed their family and many friends, traveling together, and they enjoyed their home and property. In her later years, Hazel especially loved her extended family, church family, and many friends. She used her special talent in card making as one of the many ways to show her love. She was a member of East Valley Presbyterian Church in Otis Orchards. Hazel is survived by her children Cindy Curtis and husband James and Donald Raeder, Jr. and Kim Lentz; grandchildren Luke French (Tara), Johnathan French, Jeremy French, Matthew French, Maury Batali; step-grandchildren Justin Lentz (Stephanie) Jesse Lentz, Rebecca Montgomery (Jeff), Bryan Curtis (Nicole); great-grandchildren Alex French, Christian French, Alaina French and Jackson French; step great-grandchildren Cory Montgomery, Kota Montgomery, Madison Montgomery, Emily Curtis, Danielle Curtis, Hailey Lentz, Ben Lentz and Emily Lentz. she was preceded in death by her parents Peder and Alma Thomsen and husband Donald Raeder. Funeral Service 1:00PM Wednesday Sept. 8, 2010 at Heritage Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to East Valley Presbyterian Church, Otis Orchards, WA or the Shriner's Childrens Hospital, Spokane, WA.
