Hazel Marie (Dennis) Buck

January 23, 1927 - June 05, 2016

Hazel Marie (Dennis) Buck Obituary (Age 89) Hazel was born on January 23, 1927 to Henry and Louise Dennis in Deerbrook, Wisconsin. She had 2 older brothers, Frank and David, who both preceded her in death; and 1 younger brother Lyle, who is still living. At age 17 she and her family moved from Wisconsin to Spokane. Later she was to meet her husband, Nelson Buck, on a blind date in 1946; but it was canceled as his troop was being shipped out without notice. He wrote her a letter of apology, and they continued to write each other until he was discharged from the Air Force in 1947. Instead of returning to his home state of Pennsylvania he came to Spokane to meet her and keep their date. They dated for 3 months 3 months and got married July 4, 1947, and they were together for 64 years before he preceded her in death in 2012. They raised 3 children: Betty (Keith), Richard (preceded her in death in 2010), and James. They had 7 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. After their children were grown they moved to the Elk-Camden area. At that time she decided to finish her high school education and got her G.E.D. When we were growing up we seldom had a tv so she would spend hours reading stories to us; like the Five Little Peppers, and the Laura Ingalls wilder stories; and every week we would get to buy a new Little Golden Book story. She always read with lots of expression and fluctuation in her voice and it made them come to life. I think a lot of that came from her youth when she did songs and plays in their little one room schools. She was a woman of routine, each day was designated to a chore. She was always busy, enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing. She was known for Pennsylvania Dutch Pot Pie, homemade noodle soup, her apple and rhubarb doodles and homemade biscuits; not to mention Christmas Eve dinner and lots of cookies and pies. She will be missed by everyone. A Special thanks to Royal Park Care Center for their excellent care these past 4 years. A Funeral Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11:00AM. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Hazel, please visit our Tree Store.
