Heather Kay Powell Obituary POWELL, HEATHER K 1952 - 2023 Heather Powell, our beloved "Aunt Kay", Aunt Feather, neighbor, care-giver, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 11th. She was born June 10, 1952, to H. Elizabeth (Betty) and Matt Sabadin in Spokane, WA. She attended school at Opportunity Grade School and was a 1970 graduate of Central Valley High School. Education was important to her and she attended both Eastern Washington University and Indiana University, earning advanced degrees from both. She went on to have successful careers in HR, Training and Development for Mirage Resorts in Las Vegas and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. She fully immersed herself as a sports fan in any town she lived in, sharing many fun stories about Hoosier basketball (during the Bobby Knight years),Texas Tech football and most recently, Gonzaga basketball. Heather was a loving and supportive friend to so many and a doting aunt to her niece, nephews and grand-nieces. She was a steward of family history, often sharing early stories, stories we were too young to remember, along with interesting facts about the Knight and Sabadin side of our family tree. She loved her family, her church family, her countless friends, animals, music, cooking, vintage Toyota trucks, a snowy day, witty sarcasm, a good monte cristo, and following current affairs on Twitter. She was well-loved by her Gonzaga student neighbors, several of whom stopped by to tell us how kind she was and how much they would miss her. Heather was preceded in death by her Dad, Matthew, mom, Betty, sister Carol Nicholson, brother Nick Sabadin and former husband Richard Powell who were all in Heaven to greet her. Heather is survived by her niece Sara Nicholson Parsons, nephews Josh and Chris Nicholson, brother-in-law Mike Nicholson, grand-nieces Ashley and Audrey Parsons, step daughters Stacie and Corey Powell and countless other dear friends and neighbors.
