Helen F. Stowell Obituary (Age 93) Helen F. Stowell, the last survivor of a pioneer family, died on June 30, 2015. Her grandfather W.H. Stowell came to Spokane from Nevada in 1891 and established the Stowell Drug Co. and Assay Office. He was active in the business until his death in 1931. Helen?s father, W.H. (Harry) Stowell, Jr. continued in the business, located at 421 W Sprague, until 1961 when his illness forced closure of the business. It was the oldest Drug Store in Spokane and specialized in old time remedies and herbs. They did assaying for miners from all over the Northwest and Alaska. Helen was born in Spokane and graduated from North Central High School and Washington State University. She served in the WAVES during WWII and the Korean War. She was a caseworker for the Department of Social and Health Services for 30 years. Helen was Past Matron of Electa Chapter #20 Order of Eastern Star and member of Daughters of the Nile, the Hobnailers Hiking Club and Spokane Mountaineers. At her request no funeral services will be held. Burial will be in the family plot at Riverside Memorial Park following cremation. She is survived by cousins John and Jerri Brown, Heather Brown and Nichole Johnson, all of Spokane, Charles Ham of Spokane and Kathryn Ham of San Diego, CA. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
