Helen Joan Jacobs

Helen Joan Jacobs Obituary Helen passed away on May 9, 2010 in Spokane. She was born in Coeur d?Alene, Idaho to pioneer parents, Luzetta and Vernon W. Best. She graduated from the University of Idaho with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and taught high school for several years in the Northwest. Helen attended graduate school at the University of California, Berkeley, before returning to the Northwest to teach. She married Harry X. Kelly, becoming a homemaker and mother. They shared the birth of a daughter, and shared many wonderful years together until Harry passed away in 1972. Helen later married Norman W. Jacobs. Their union was a very happy one and they were inseparable. Norman passed away in 2004. Helen was a talented pianist and enjoyed being in the Civic Theatre. She volunteered with the Red Cross, was chair of the Motor Corps of the Red Cross, President of the Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority, President of Music for Youth, President of the Liberty Lake Nine-Hole Golfers, President of the Spokane Porcelain China Painters, President of the former St. Margaret?s Auxiliary, President of the Spokane Knife and Fork Club (she was the first woman president of this club since its beginning 60 years before), as well as being involved in many other organizations. Her hobbies included oil painting, playing bridge, and she was a voracious reader. Helen always had time to visit anyone and gave her time freely at the Skilled Nursing centers. If asked her religion, Helen?s reply was that she was an ?attentive Christian?. Helen requested no formal service because her spirit is now taken for whatever plans God may have for her. She also believes that a portion of her spirit and life on earth will remain with those who knew her. Helen was preceded in death by her loving daughter, Joan Kelly Driscoll in 2004. She is survived by step-children Jim Kelly, Jean Piccard, Eileen Cobain and Thomas Kelly, and grandchildren Jack, Shannon and Meaghan Driscoll.
