Helen Lee Duchow Obituary After a lifetime in Spokane, 70 years of marriage with her high school sweetheart, 4 children, 18 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, Helen Lee Duchow passed away on Feb. 25, 2023. She was 89. Helen was born to Fred and Elva Hubbell on Sept. 28, 1933, the youngest of four children. She met her husband, Virgil Duchow, while attending North Central HS and they married within a year of her graduation when Virgil was drafted to fight in the Korean War. She lost her beloved mother to cancer while pregnant with her first child and while Virg was in Korea. She was a loving and involved mother and community member -- Sunday School teacher, active in PTA, a Camp Fire leader and member of the Inland NW Camp Fire Board of Directors. When her youngest went to college, Helen went to college as well, attending SFCC and then EWU to earn her accounting degree. She went to work for a law practice, running the office and handling their many trust accounts. Her favorite places all had beaches � Whidbey Island, Maui, Cannon Beach. She was an excellent bridge player and loved reading, walking and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Fred Hubbell, and sisters Jane Moe and Beverly Noble. Helen is survived by her husband, Virgil, daughters Denise Hopkins, Debbie Rauen (Jerome), Dori Miller (Jack), son Darby Duchow (Marie), her dearly loved grandchildren, her best friend since 7th grade, Ollie Farr, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Women and Children's Free Restaurant & Community Kitchen, 1408 N. Washington, Spokane, WA 99201. A memorial service will be held Sat, April 15, 1:00 at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA.
