Ikuko Uno Tamura Obituary (Age 90) Iku Tamura passed away on August 20, 2016, while in the loving care of Phyllis Hathaway and Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA at the age of 90. Born in Seattle, WA on June 20, 1926, she was the 5th of 6 children born to Kinuta and Ryoko Uno. The Uno family lived in Seattle prior to World War II, during which they were relocated to the concentration camps at Tule Lake and later Minadoka before finally finding a new home and farm in Spokane after World War II ended. Iku met husband Linsy during incarceration in the camps. They were married in 1949 and raised 3 children. Iku spent much of her adult life working on the Uno family farm. In her spare time she was an accomplished sewist, she loved listening to music and also entertained us on many a Saturday night by playing the piano while we 3 girls sang! She enjoyed gardening, and was a veritable textbook of knowledge when it came to plants and wildlife. She also loved collecting good recipes to try out on lucky family members on Sunday night suppers and she loved finding the very best bargains at the grocery store every Saturday morning! She was an avid reader and enjoyed mysteries. Once she retired from farming she did more traveling, visiting old friends and family. She was a kind and compassionate woman who loved to dote on grandchildren and her son-in-laws, always giving the first and very best helpings to everyone else and putting herself last. Throughout her battles with both breast and bladder cancer, she fought courageously and showed us an amazing inner strength that we did not know existed, the very same as her ancestors had. Iku was preceded in death by her parents Kinuta and Ryoko Uno; her loving husband Linsy; sisters Kazuko Bill, Misae Taketa, Heidi Onodera and brothers Tsutomu and Kiyoshi Uno. She is survived by daughters Phyllis (Ken) Hathaway, Teresa (Dave) Seaquist and Ruth (Malcolm) Mano, as well as her 4 grandsons, 2 granddaughters, 2 great-granddaughters plus many nieces and nephews. Due to extenuating circumstances, funeral services will be delayed until next spring. Further notifications will be posted at a later time. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Ikuko, please visit our Tree Store. Read more Events AUG 20
