Ilene B Goldstein, 91, passed away peacefully on September 15th.  She was born June 27, 1933, in Spokane, Washington, to Henry and Sadie Millman.  She attended Irving Grade School and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1951.

In 1951, she married Stan Silver, and as young newlyweds, they purchased a tiny downtown café.  They renamed it Stan’s Coney Island, which they operated from 1951-1968.  After they sold the café, they purchased Ilene’s father’s jewelry and pawnshop, Millmans Jewelers and EZ Loan, which they operated until 1981.

After Stan’s death, Ilene married her dear friend, Donnie Goldstein. She moved to Minneapolis to join Donnie.  After retirement and many years of harsh Minnesota winters, Ilene and Donnie purchased a home in Scottsdale, Arizona, where they enjoyed the beautiful winter months of Scottsdale.  It was a fairytale for both, and sadly, she lost Donnie to cancer.

Ilene is preceded in death by her first husband, Stan Silver, her second husband, Donnie Goldstein, and her son Mike Silver.  She is survived by daughter Julie and Michael Levy of Parker, CO, daughter Tamara Barrat of Peoria, AZ, and Mark and Sue Silver of Spokane, along with 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.

We want to give a special thank you to Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care they provided Mom towards the end.  They showed Mom incredible love, dignity and compassion throughout this process.

Ilene was a friend to all.  Kindness was her middle name.  She was a lifelong member of Temple Beth Shalom in Spokane, WA.  She was also a huge dog lover and lovingly spoiled her dogs.   The family has asked that donations be made in her memory to Temple Beth Shalom, 1322 E 30th, 99203, or the animal shelter of your choice.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, at 12:30 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Cemetery, 501 Government Way, Spokane, Washington. Heritage Funeral Home will be handling all arrangements.
