Isla (Bysegger) Leigh

March 26, 1921 - June 28, 2017

Isla (Bysegger) Leigh Obituary Isla was born to Lois Strong Bysegger and William Bysegger in Spokane, November 26, 1921. Three days after Islas birth her father passed away. Lois married Emil Slim Arrasmith when Isla was a toddler, and along with Islas older brother Eugene, formed a loving, happy family. She attended Bemis Elementary and graduated from John Rogers High School in 1939. Isla married Harry Leigh in 1942, and followed him to various training locations in the United States before he was shipped overseas with the Army Air Corps. Harry and Isla were married for sixty-one years. Isla began her distinguished career in education in 1954, as a secretary at Alcott, Edison, and Lincoln Heights Elementary Schools. All the while she was working, she attended night school at Whitworth College. She graduated with honors from Whitworth with a degree in education, eventually attaining her counseling and school psychologist credentials. Isla served the Mead School District for many years. After retirement, she worked part-time as a school psychologist in the East Valley School District. Her position as a docent at Spokanes original museum gave her great joy, particularly as she studied and prepared for her commentary on the various exhibits. Isla gave entirely of herself to her students, friends, and family. We will hold her in our hearts forever. Isla was preceded in death by her mother, step-father, brother and husband. Those wishing her a happy transition are her son Jim (Megan) Leigh, grandson Brendan Leigh, granddaughter Emily (Nick) Mikoski, great-grandchildren Savanah, Max, and Cora Mikoski, and Isla Jane Leigh; nephew Ward (Joan) Bysegger, and nieces Heidi (Robert) Vettleson, Wendy (Robert) Hatheway, and Sherri (Dave) Jarvey. A celebration of Islas life will be announced later. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Islas memory to Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery, 1004 East 8th Ave, Spokane, WA 99202. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Isla, please visit our Tree Store.
