J. Phillip Piffer Obituary
J. Phillip Piffer passed away on March 14, 2012 at the age of 67. Phillip was born in Aberdeen Scotland to W. Earl Piffer and Charlotte Phillip Piffer on January 5, 1945. At the age of one he and his mother, a war bride, traveled to Canada to meet up with his father. Growing up in Calgary he attended King Edward and Central High School. In 1965 he married Shirley Heinrichs, and in 1969 they had a daughter Marya. After Marya was born, he furthered his education by obtaining a CMA in 1977 and an MBA from the University of Calgary in 1980. Over the years he worked for Calgary Power, Canadian Superior Oil, Kan Energy and Sparrow Electric. In the early 90's he started his own oil and gas company, Brigdon Resources, named after the bridge where his father proposed. It later merged with another company. In 2002 Phillip started Genesis Fueltech with his future son-in-law David DeVries and Larry Williams. Phillip and Shirley moved to Washington State in 1990. His passions were the arts, with literature and music being his favorites. He loved the finer things in life but had great affection and appreciation for the simpler things. Phillip loved the prairie, mountains, and sharing his time there with friends and family. Over the years Phillip made many friends and he treasured these friendships. The greatest gift he ever received was his grandsons Phillip, his namesake, and Benjamin. They brought him joy and laughter. The family would like to thank Dr. Hakan Kaya, Dr. Kirk Rowbotham, Dr. Kohlmeier, the Staff at Cancer Care NW and the Staff at Deaconess CICU. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 11:00am at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave., Spokane. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cancer Care NW, 601 S. Sherman St. Spokane, WA 99202 or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851, www.themmrf.org.
