Jack Alexander Paxton Obituary (Age 98) Passed away October 27, 2018. Jack was born November 9, 1919, in Seattle, WA, to James A. and Dorothy (Marchant) Paxton. He grew up and attended schools in Spokane, including Lewis and Clark High School, finishing in 1939. He had a paper route delivering the Spokane Press and sold the Saturday Evening Post. During and after high school he had a job delivering groceries from Heiny�s Grand Supply, a neighborhood market. In 1941, with his father�s encouragement, he joined the IBEW Electrical Union and became an apprentice electrician. He was working at Geiger Field, building Army Air Corp barracks, when he was drafted in May 1942. He became a radio repairman for the 81st Infantry Division, the Wildcats. During a furlough from training near Yuma, AZ, he returned to Spokane and married Ethelyn A. Agar on July 26, 1943. They were married 65 years. The 81st Infantry saw action in the Palau Islands, including Angaur and Peleliu. Later, they moved to the Philippines and then Japan. He returned to Spokane on Christmas Eve 1945. After the war, Jack and Ethelyn settled in Spokane where they raised their daughter, Carol, and son, Raymond. Jack completed his electrical apprenticeship, taking classes at the Spokane Trade School and working for Maxwell�s Electric. He later worked for the Spokane Public School District and Power City Electric. He enjoyed the large challenging jobs; favorites were building Sacred Heart Hospital and Ferris High School. Jack and Ethelyn were members of Lidgerwood Evangelical Church and the Alpenlite Travel Club. He enjoyed supporting his children in their activities, woodworking projects, Spokane Indians and Mariners baseball, travelling, and wintering for sixteen years in Yuma, AZ. He is survived by daughter, Carol (Gary) Blake of Spokane; son, Raymond (Sally) Paxton of Bellevue, WA; and grandchildren, Andrea Blake, Erica Blake, and Cole Paxton. He is also survived by brother-in-law, John William Agar and sister-in-law, Nina Paxton. His wife, Ethelyn, and brother, Robert, preceded him in death. His family, friends, and others whose lives he touched will dearly miss him. A graveside service will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, November 9, 2018, at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, followed by a memorial service at 1:30pm at Heritage Funeral Home.
