Passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009. Jim was born to Betty and Gordon Stanfield of Toronto, Ontario, Canada on January 1, 1947. He had the distinction of being the first New Years baby born in Canada in 1947, the year that the Canadian Citizenship Act took effect. Prior to that date, Canadians were considered British subjects. A member of one of Canada?s preeminent hockey families, Jim was one of seven hockey playing brothers. He played junior hockey in St. Catherines, Ontario until 1967 when he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League. In 1969 he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and in 1973 to the St. Louis Blues. Over his 10-year professional career, he also played for Dallas of the CHL, Springfield of the AHL, San Diego, Portland, and Denver of the WHL. In 1974 he moved to Spokane and played three seasons with the Spokane Flyers before retiring in 1977. Following his hockey career, he was employed by B&B Distributors of Spokane for 25 years. After retiring, he and his loving wife Linda enjoyed golfing, traveling, camping and spending time with their friends at the Eagles. Jim is survived by his wife Linda, his children Laura, Greg and Bobbi Stanfield, and his stepchildren, Steve Sebesta and Stephanie Macabeo (Mac); his grandchildren Connor Guinn, Chloe Stanfield, Melissa Macabeo, Mia Sebesta, and Anna McElderry; his brothers Jack (Trina), Fred (Anita), Joe, Vic (Carol), and Paul (Cathy); numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Betty Stanfield, and his brother Gordon. We are going to miss your smiling face, your funny jokes and your infectious laugh. We all love you. A celebration of Jim?s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA. Reception to follow at the Eagles Lodge, 6410 N.
