James (Jim) Floyd Jones, a devoted husband, loving father, and dedicated grandfather whose warmth, wisdom, and faith illuminated the lives of all who knew him, passed away on April 19, 2025, at the age of 65, surrounded by his beloved family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on December 18, 1959, in Portland, Oregon to Gene and Jean (Anderson) Jones, Jim was the fourth of five siblings. He graduated from Portland Christian High School in 1978 before pursuing higher education. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies at Moody Bible Institute and a Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership at Moody Theological Seminary. His lifelong love of learning inspired him to pursue a doctorate in Business Administration at George Fox University. He successfully completed the coursework, but his cancer diagnosis prevented him from finishing his dissertation.

Jim married the love of his life, Jolene, on August 18, 1982, a little over a year after meeting on a blind date. The wedding was held in Mount Vernon, Washington, with Don DeJong presiding. During their courtship they opened a gourmet coffee shop that grew into a thriving downtown restaurant called Skagit Coffee Company. Jim operated that restaurant until he took a job working as a general manager with a national restaurant chain, later working in sales at Nordstrom and Northwest Office Supply. He eventually discovered his life’s passion as a pastor, serving faithfully at Calvary Chapel, now - Grace Christian Fellowship - in Mount Vernon for 16 transformative years.

In October 2008, Jim joined Moody Bible Institute as a Stewardship Representative, a position that required him to relocate to Spokane, Washington, a place he grew to love deeply. At Moody, Jim served passionately as a Stewardship Representative traveling and meeting donors in several states, then as a Field Director over several regions. In 2016, he left Moody and founded his own consulting business, Valiant Leaders, dedicated to cultivating excellence in leadership.

Jim returned to Moody Bible Institute in 2019, specifically to raise funds for Moody Aviation. This role combined his gifts for relationship-building and his unwavering faith in the eternal value of his work. Jim cherished the friendships he formed and the mission he supported until his final days.

Known for his infectious laughter and genuine care, Jim deeply valued meaningful conversations, never rushing his time with people. He loved the outdoors spending countless hours boating and water skiing with friends as he was growing up. He and his family spent many vacations camping and participating in other outdoor activities. One of his favorite places was the Oregon Coast and he spent as much time there as he could, even in his last days.

He was passionate about great food, enthusiastically trying new recipes or restaurants with family and friends. He delighted in classic TV shows, particularly “The Rockford Files” and “Barnaby Jones.” He loved research and good grammar. He loved to laugh and even smoke an occasional cigar.

More profoundly, Jim’s life was characterized by his unwavering love for Jesus. His life and words reflected his constant faith and dependence upon his Lord and Savior, inspiring those around him, especially in times of hardship. He was an example to many, and we will be forever grateful for the days we had with him.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his always and forever wife, Jolene, his beloved sons Justin (Brianna), Jeremy (Keelia), Jeffrey (Courtney), and his adored grandchildren Rayna, Aulani, Kaleena, McKinley, Sawyer, Sadie, and Avery. He is also survived by his brothers Ken Douglas and Gene Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Jean Jones, and his dear sisters, Gail Andrade and Gloria Chase.

Visitation will be held on April 29, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral and Cremation, located at 508 N Government Way, Spokane 98224. Funeral services will be held on April 29, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. following the scheduled visitation. Interment will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Memorial donations in honor of Jim’s impactful life may be directed to Indian Trail Church or Moody Aviation. Online condolences and memories can be shared at heritagefunerals.com

Pastor Jim! I remember him as such a focused, dynamic man of God. He really had such an infectious laugh. He touched many lives. Praying for his family during this difficult time... but we are so glad to know he is with Jesus. xo - Kate Dickerhoof

2Co 12:2  I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.

2Co 12:3  And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)

2Co 12:4  How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.

We do not sorrow as those who have no hope, but we still sorrow.
