James Thomas Davis Obituary
Passed away on November 9, 2011 with his children by his side, after suffering a stroke on October 20, 2011. He was 73 years old. Jim was born August 19, 1938 in Lubbock, TX to J. William and Edwena Davis. He was an athlete and excellent swimmer who served in the Army after graduating from high school. He then went to Texas Tech University on a swimming scholarship where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in History. Jim went on to get a Master's degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University. It was there in the library where he reunited with a high school friend, Lynn Powell, whom he later married and had three children. Jim became a Special Agent with the FBI in 1966 and served until 1995 when he retired. Jim was transferred to Spokane, WA with the FBI in 1967 where he spent most of his career and raised his three children with Lynn.
Jim was an avid outdoorsman who had a love for wildlife and adventure. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, along with skiing, hiking, camping, rafting and more. Jim loved to play and watch sports and shared that love with his children. Many people fondly remember Jim as their soccer coach with a Texas accent as he coached many youth soccer teams for all three of his children. Jim was a proud father and grandfather who always made time to play with his children, whether it was basketball in the driveway or football with the neighborhood children in the street, or taking the children sledding and skiing during the winter. He worked hard to provide for his family and was always a southern gentleman with perfect manners. In his later years, Jim enjoyed traveling to beautiful scenic areas with his second wife, Sandra.
Jim is survived by his siblings, Donald Davis and Carolyn Kennedy, of Texas; his three children, Kyle (Patty) Davis of Puyallup, WA, Laura Cook of Geneseo, NY and Dana (Craig) Mott of Snohomish, WA; and his seven grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica Davis, Jared and Jacob Cook, and Darby, Caden and Piper Mott. Jim is preceded in death by his second wife, Sandra, and his parents.
At Jim's request, a private memorial service will be held with just his children. Yearly, Jim volunteered for the Rosauers Open Invitational Golf Tournament which has donated over $2.1 million to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery since the tournament's inception. He was so proud of this charitable event. Memorials in Jim's name may be made to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery (http://www. vanessabehan.org/).
