James Tilman "Tim" Lewis Obituary
James Tillman Lewis, known to many as "Tim", was born December 30, 1924 in LaCrosse, WI. He was the youngest of four children of a first generation Norwegian-American family. He grew up in Polson, MT. He and his new bride moved to Spokane in 1951, which remained their home. He was 93 years when he passed June 10, 2018.
He loved and took great pride in his family. He will be missed and remembered by them: his wife of 67 years, Donna Lewis; his children: Tim Lewis, Julie Lewis and Randy and Dayle (s) Lewis. His grandchildren: Nicole and Denny (s) Platz, Gwendalyne and Karl (s) Dalien, Randy and Salley Gould (f), Ren?e and Erlend (s) Andersen, and Aaron Lewis; his great-grandchildren: Amber, Caitlin, and Nathan Platz, Morgan Victorino, Marcus and Kristian Andersen, Nyree Ballard and Aariana Lewis.
He was an active long-time member and an elder of the Community of Christ. He loved his church family and worked alongside friends at his local congregation and at camp grounds in many states.
He was a proud World War II Veteran (U.S. Army European Theatre), with a Purple Heart. He served many years in Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He was proud to have participated, in 2012, in a Honor Flight Trip to Washington D.C. to recognize his service to his country.
He was a diesel mechanic with the Washington State Dept. of Highways for 26 years before retiring in 1986.
He lived a life full of love and adventure, and after retirement he and Donna traveled the USA with their fifth-wheel in tow. He never met a stranger and often helped others along the way. In 2011 he was able to travel to Belgium, where he had served during the war, and Norway, where his family came from to America, with Donna and his son Tim.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 16, 7:00 PM at Spokane Valley Community of Christ, 11515 E. Broadway Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
