James W. Nettles Obituary (Age 82) James passed away on Friday, October 26, 2012 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Born October 5, 1930 to Virgil and Viola Nettles, James grew up in Piggott, Arkansas. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 and he was first stationed at Fairchild AFB. In Spokane he met and married his wife of 60 years, Phyllis Nettles, who passed away in September of this year. Phyllis and Jim had three children all born in Spokane. Jim's 22 year career in the service took him all over the world and he retired in 1972 at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Back in Spokane, James' next career was with the Postal Service where he retired again in 1994. James enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling; however his great joy was his family that included five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. James is survived by his brother Maj. Robert Nettles (ret.), sister Paula Gilchrist, his children: Kathy Van Pelt of Spokane, Michael Nettles and his wife Jeri of Spokane, Nancy Lipe and husband Edward of Richfield NC, his grandchildren: Rick Fiala (wife Jessica), David Fiala, Phil Koger, Michele Stocking (husband David), Daniel Lipe, and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 11:30am on Friday, November 2 at Heritage Chapel.
