Jana Renee (Breitsprecher) Oulman Obituary
(Age 62)
Passed away December 29, 2011 in the company of friends she had known for over 40 years. She was a member of the Mead High School Class of 1967, and was visiting with classmates Kathy Samuel, Cathy Dormaier, Lori Randall, and Pat Waller at the time of passing. Jana was very close to her classmates and always enjoyed their company.
Jana is survived by her mother Gertrude Breitsprecher, sons Scott and Landon Oulman, uncles Mel and John Breitsprecher, uncles Daryl and Fred Sterritt, aunt Darletta Schlot, and numerous cousins. Jana was preceded in death by her father Rex Breitsprecher, uncles Roy and Herman Breitsprecher Jr., uncle Jack Sterritt, and aunt Hazel Anderson Breitsprecher.
Jana was born in Spokane, WA in 1949 and grew up on the South Hill on 35th Street and also on Five Mile Prairie Road on Five Mile Prairie. She went to Adams Elementary School and later moved to Five Mile Prairie during her high school years and attended Mead High School where she graduated from in 1967. She loved pets and raised and trained many chihuahuas at her home for many years while growing up. She also loved horses, and her favorite pet was a horse named "Cherokee" that she cared for and rode nearly every day during her teenage years. She loved to ride her horse with her two cousins, Debbie Rubens Breitsprecher and Carrie McAleer Breitsprecher and their horses, whom also lived on Five Mile Prairie. Unfortunately, "Cherokee" died in 1969 and was always loved and remembered fondly.
After graduating from Mead High School, Jana went to work for Beneficial Finance. There she met and married Steven D. Oulman, and together they raised two sons, Scott and Landon Oulman. Later, she worked for Dr. Leo M. Scott N.D. as a therapist. Finally, Jana obtained a Legal Secretary Degree from Spokane Community College in 1989 and went to work for the City of Spokane in the Civil Service
Department. She later retired from the City of Spokane.
Jana was a professional pianist and organist. She played the piano for many weddings, funerals, and conventions for her many friends and family members. She loved music, especially the 1950's and 1960's music. Her favorite artist was Elvis Presley. She also liked comedy, especially older comedy shows like Red Skelton, The Three Stooges, Amos and Andy, and Abbott and Costello. Jana was an avid hockey fan and attended numerous Spokane Chiefs hockey games for over twenty years. This was a family event as her mother, father, and two sons also attended the hockey games. She especially loved to watch her son Landon play hockey locally in Spokane. Jana was an accomplished painter who helped paint her sons' house and also helped paint houses for her family. Jana's favorite hobby was traveling. She went with her family on many vacations. She took her two sons and parents through Western Canada and the Western United States in the 1980's. In 2001, she took her family on a two month tour of the United States driving through the Rocky Mountains south to the Southwest, then traveling east through the Gulf States all the way to Florida, next traveling north up the East Coast all the way to the New England states, and finally heading west back to Spokane through the Great Lakes and the northern most states. From 2002 through 2004, she visited with her sons the Rocky Mountain States and the Southwest. She toured places like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, Las Vegas, Zion, Arches, Bryce Canyon, Tuscon, Santa Fe, and more. Her last vacation was in June 2011 where she went again to Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, Jackson Hole, and Salt Lake City. She always remembered and cherished the memories of those vacations with her family.
Jana was a wonderful loving person and mother. She enjoyed life and always loved her sons and parents very deeply. She will always be loved, remembered, and sorely missed by her family. Viewing will be held at Heritage Funeral Home January 11-13, and funeral service will be held on January 14 at lO A.M.
