Janet Martha Sullivan Hodgson

Born May 26, 1937 Passed peacefully March 6, 2024 in Peoria, AZ Janet was born in Spokane, Washington on May 26, 1937 to John Clifton Sullivan and Martha Ester Zier Sullivan. Janet met the love of her life, Allen Hodgson in Junior Achievement while attending North Central High School. She graduated in the class of 1955 . After high school, Janet attended college and became an accountant.


When in high school, Allen attended Lewis and Clark High School and lived on the South Hill in Spokane while Janet lived in North Spokane. Allen would walk Janet home after Junior Achievement carrying her books before walking the nearly 5 miles back to his home. Excited to start their new lives together, Janet and Allen Hodgson married on April 9, 1965.


Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Hodgson. She is survived by her brothers, Dennis Sullivan of Fullerton, CA; John Sullivan of Spokane, WA; her three children; Shirley Mathis of Peoria, AZ; Julie Kaplan of Peoria, AZ; Rick Hodgson of Palmer, AK; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She treasured the time she spent with her family. Janet had many friends who thought so much of her. Her kindness was felt by all who knew her.


Janet had a soft spot for her furry friends, treating each of them like the valuable family member they were. She was particularly fond of poodles and had two over the years, Sissy and Max. She loved waking them every night.


Janet was passionate about her role as an accountant throughout her professional life. Her last job was as a business office manger for a dental practice. She worked at the dental office for 18 years and was loved and cherished by all of her coworkers who became life long friends.


She loved to sit in her chair after work and embroider. She loved to read and never missed reading the Sunday paper.


Janet will always be remembered for her love and compassion for her loved ones and the way she always made every holiday and occasion special for each person. We couldn’t have asked for a better mother. We will miss Mom every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved her.
