Jay L. Powers Obituary (Age 90) Jay was born on January 5, 1923 in Fairfield, WA to Jake and Grace Powers. He entered in to rest on May 3, 2013 in Spokane. Dad resided in Fairfield, WA, Rosalia, WA and Spokane Valley with his family until moving to 24th and Grand. He graduated from Lewis & Clark High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and sailed both the Atlantic and Pacific as a motor machinist mate on cruiser and cargo vessels. He was truly proud of his service in WWII and always proudly displayed the American Flag. Dad owned and operated Powers Sheet Metal Inc. with his father, brothers Larry and Tommy, son Mike and wife Betty for 48 years in Spokane Valley. He was a leader in the industry, providing leadership as a chairman for pension plans, 401K programs, trustees and labor representatives. Dad was an active member of Millwood Presbyterian and East Valley Presbyterian after he and Betty moved from Millwood to Liberty Lake. He so enjoyed the monthly men's breakfast and building the steeple at Eastern Valley Church. Mom and dad also enjoyed flying their plane from Felts Field, golfing and traveling to Ireland, Japan, Russia, Hawaii, and the United States together. Dad was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Grace Powers and his brothers Larry and Tommy Powers. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty; son Mike Powers; daughter Linda Powers; grandchildren: Kris Knowles, Michele Powers, and Amie Powers; and great-grandchildren: Carissa Page, Teagan Page, Gabby Smith, and Ali and Avery Knowles. Dad cherished his family and using his woodworking skills to build cradles, window boxes, toys, nativity scenes and bird houses. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at East Valley Presbyterian Church, 5305 N. Harvard, Otis Orchards, WA 99027. Memorial contributions may be made in Jay's name to the Union Gospel Mission, Hospice House of Spokane or Meals on Wheels.
