Jean Goldsworthy Obituary It is with great sadness that we, her family, announce the death of Jean Goldsworthy on January 16, 2015 at the Rockwood Retirement Home in Spokane, Washington. Jean was born on September 9, 1919 at Thornton, Washington, the daughter of Claude and Marie Comegys, a pioneer Whitman County family. After graduating from Rosalia High School, where she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) F. Goldsworthy, Jean attended Washington State College for two years. There she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, the Varsity debating team, and invited to join the Intercollegiate Organizations of Spurs. In 1939 she entered Eastern Washington State College and graduated in 1940 with a three year teaching certificate. Bob entered the Army Air Corps and they were married on December 29,1940 in San Antonio, Texas, where they were stationed for two years. During World War II they lived in Tennessee, Alabama, Kansas, and Nebraska before her husband was sent to the Pacific as a B-29 pilot. After the war they returned to the family farm near Rosalia where they lived for 35 years. Bob was a state representative for 13 years and they spent the legislative sessions in Olympia. They moved to Spokane in 1982. Jean and Bob enjoyed world-wide travel and shared many adventures together. Jean was known as a gracious hostess, much loved by her family and numerous friends. Bob passed away on January 25, 2014. Jean?s grief was immense. They were childhood sweethearts and truly as one as a couple. Jean Goldsworthy was a member of the Manito United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion auxiliary, Mayflower Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Spokane club. Jean is survived by her son Robert (Eugenia), her daughter Jill Dougherty (Roland), her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Donations in her memory may be sent to Rockwood Residents Foundation, c/o Residents Assistance Fund, 2903 E. 25th Ave., Spokane, Washington, 99223. Jean?s memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. at the Rockwood Retirement Home, 2903 E. 25th Ave., Spokane, Washington.
