November 28, 1940 - January 11, 2016

Jean Kathleen (Kingma) McVay Obituary Jean Kathleen (Kingma) McVay passed away January 11, 2016. Jean entered the world on November 28, 1940 with her twin sister, Jane, as the daughter of Florence and Gerben Kingma in Seattle, WA. Jean and Jane grew up in a loving family with brothers Ron and John. Her youth was spent with family and friends and much of her activity centered at West Side Presbyterian Church. Jean was an excellent student graduating in the top ten of her class at West Seattle High School. She went on to attend Whitworth College, later graduating magna cum laude with a degree in business administration from the University of Washington. It was at Whitworth were Jean met the love of her life, Harrison. They were married November 27, 1964 and spent fifty-one years together. Jean taught briefly at Idaho State University and later spent many years working in the custom decorating department at JC Penny, but her true vocation was as a mother and wife to her sons Mark and Mike and her husband Harrison. She kept an impeccably clean and well organized home. For years her yard was the envy of Northwood. Jean lovingly supported her family in their endeavors. Always a hard worker, Jean was a model of efficiency and thrift. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Gerben and Florence Kingma. She is survived by her older brother Ron (Marilyn) Kingma, her younger brother John (Judy) Kingma, her twin sister Jane (Bill) Meunch, her sons Mark (Shelby) McVay and Mike (Sherri Oneil) McVay, her grandchildren Nate, Macy, Connor and Rhys and by her husband, Harrison. Jean was loved dearly and will be missed. The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane for their loving care and attention the past few days. A Memorial Service will be held for Jean at Heritage Funeral Home on Monday, January 18, 2016 at 1:00PM. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Jean, please visit our Tree Store.
