Jeffrey Joseph Thimsen Obituary
(Age 68)
"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom
shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?"~Psalm 27:1
With great faith and love for the Lord, Jeffrey Joseph Thimsen entered into eternal life on Friday, September 23, 2011. Jeff was born November 3, 1942, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Lloyd Gene Thimsen and Mary Kathryn (Clancey) Thimsen. After graduating from Washington High School, in Sioux Falls, Jeff attended Gonzaga University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business and was commissioned from ROTC into the U.S. Army. After college, Jeff was assigned to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he trained with the U.S. Army Infantry. He was then stationed in Erlangen, Germany. One day shy of 45 years to the day of his death, he met his wife, Marcy (Bradley) Thimsen, on September 24, 1967, in Germany. They married at The Presidio in San Francisco, and enjoyed a life in the military, serving and living in Germany; Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; Redstone Arsenal, Alabama; and Salem, Oregon. He also served in Vietnam, from 1969-1970. After 11 years in the U.S. Army, Jeff and Marcy returned to Spokane for him to attend Gonzaga University School of Law. They made Spokane their long-term home, where Jeff practiced law, focusing on the areas of School Law and Labor Negotiations. He finished his career by working for the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee for seven years, during which time he also studied for and was ordained as an Anglican priest, serving as the Associate Rector at Christ the King Anglican Church, in Spokane. Jeff retired from the Chapter 13 Bankruptcy Trustee, but continued serving as a priest until the time of his death. Education, military and his career were important, but Jeff's greatest earthly accomplishment was the family he and Marcy created: their three daughters, Shannon Thimsen (Aaron) Lorenz, Courtney Thimsen (Jerry) Cimijotti and Blythe Thimsen, and their seven grandchildren: Molly, Ryan, Connor and Anna Lorenz, and Clara, Paul and John Cimijotti. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, Jeff is survived by his mother, Kay Thimsen Rozum; his brothers, Gary (Grace) Thimsen and Chris (Concha) Thimsen; his sister, Kitty (Doug) Miller; nine nieces and nephews, as well as several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Gene Thimsen. Our hearts are sad at the absence of Jeff, but secure in the promise of Christ that we will be with him again. That truth gives great joy. A visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Heritage Funeral Home. A memorial service will be celebrated by the Rt. Rev. William Thompson, Bishop of the Diocese of Western Anglicans, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11 a.m. Private burial with military honors will be at the Washington State Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Anglican Church (1717 W. Sixth Avenue, Spokane, WA 99204) or Hospice of Spokane's Hospice House (P.O. Box 2215 Spokane, WA 99210).
