June 03, 1917 - November 19, 2011

Jessie Elizabeth Satre Obituary (Age 94) Passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011. She was born on June 3, 1917, to Walter and Emily (Viles) Stewart in Post Falls, Idaho. Jessie attended grade school in a rural, two-room school and spent her childhood on the island near The Washington Water Power dam and powerhouse where her father was employed. Jessie attended high school in Post Falls and in 1939 graduated from Washington State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics. After graduation and until 1941, Jessie worked for The Washington Water Power in Colfax as a Home Service Advisor. She traveled to WWP customer homes to demonstrate the use of new electric ranges and small appliances. In 1941, Jessie married her high school sweetheart, Wendell J. Satre. Together they raised four children: Janet Satre Ahrend (Robert) of Spokane; Clark (Debbie) of Yakima; Jeanne Kanikeberg of Olympia; and Glen (Marilyn) of Spokane. Jessie and Wendell relocated to the East Coast while Wendell served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She was employed at the Harvard Theological Library during this time. They returned to Spokane in 1946, where they made their home for the remainder of their years together. Jessie was a devoted mother and active member of the community, championing causes close to her nurturing heart. She served in the Women's Association and the Primary Sunday School Department at Manito Presbyterian Church and on the Hutton Settlement Board, caring for the spiritual and physical needs of children from all walks of life. Jessie was a member of Women of Rotary; and served on the Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary for 25 years, many of those years in Pediatric Oncology. A lifelong music lover and musician herself, she volunteered with Music Fest on numerous occasions; and supported higher education for women with active participation in her chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, serving as president for several terms. A woman of great faith, she was a long time member of Manito Presbyterian Church, and later a member of Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. Jessie is survived by her children, along with grandchildren Betsy (Dan) Brogan, Cincinnati, OH; Wendy (Steve) Krostag, Bay City, OR; Lauren Kanikeberg, Portland, OR; Heather Kanikeberg, Seattle; Kellie and Kimberly Satre, Spokane, Kevin Satre at University of Washington; seven great grandchildren - Ethan, Lilly, Debra, Aaron and Dixie Brogan of Cincinnati; Clark and Emily Krostag of Bay City.
